Barb's knees #14

Torsten, a German student I met in PEI, told me a story about family that I cannot forget. He was referring to his in-laws coming to visit and he said “Family is like fish. Very tasty for the first few days but after a week, it stinks”.

I’ve always liked that because it seems to ring true more often than not. For some, the time frame may be shorter or longer, depending on the company. But, I think it really reflects how we deal with personal disruption. I can go a week, no sweat, on my own, but after that, it stinks.

I am looking forward to seeing Barb here, to seeing Tiffany who I haven’t seen in too long a time and to sitting in the same chair I am now sitting in, doing the same things I am now doing, but knowing there is someone else nearby, able to chat whenever there is something to chat about.

Barb is now planning to come home on Friday. It should make for considerably less running around and my only instruction is to get plain Lay’s potato chips, not rippled, not flavoured and not any other brand. I think I can handle that much until Friday …

Hi John! I know exactly what you mean. But you have to know that you've been a wonderful fill-in for Barb and with the help of your ever faithful HANK, you've kept us in stitches as well as updated on our dear Barb's progress. Just a few more sleeps and she'll be home with you!

John you and Hank have done a superb job keeping us all informed and entertained. We all feel your pain at not having Barb around, but thanks so much for easing all our worries by keeping us up to date on her progress. We appreciate you! Hang in there! ~chris

Bless your heart John. It's so hard to be without your other half especially under these circumstances. I hope Friday gets here quickly for you. Tell Barb that I share her fondness for those plain lays potato chips.

So glad to hear that Barb will be home soon. You will still be her
man Friday, but at least you will have some company on those long evenings sitting there in your chair. You have done a good job,
John, in keeping us informed on
Barb's progress and we have some insight into the man in her life.
Kudos for you in keeping up the blog link.

A girl can't live by chips alone. You might want to have some chocolate on hand too. Just a suggestion.

Yippee, Barb comes home this Friday. She's been such a trooper through this whole ordeal as you have been, John, or is it "Hank." Can't wait until Barb is back in full swing at the Shack. We truly miss her.

It is a huge job to be caregiver and keep the home fires burning when another family member is ill or on the mend. Sounds like Barb is very lucky, and you'll both appreciate your daughter's help. Thanks for keeping us updated (with Hank's help, of course) and just know we're all cheering YOU on as well as Barb because you really do have a big job right now. And yes, it is a bummer having normal life disrupted...I try to think of how much I will appreciate the little things of routine once things are back to normal. Hang in there! Hurray that Barb comes home Friday.
